Stuck in the office, working a report while your son plays in an important Little League game? Caught in traffic while your daughter makes her high school basketball debut? Really enjoy slavishly following high school sports from schools 850 miles away from you, for some reason?
Until recently, the answers to those concerns would have been, “too bad”, “too bad”, and “boy, you really need a better hobby.”
Now, however, there’s GameChanger. GameChanger is a mobile app that not only replaces the tedium of scoring games using a pencil and paper (a task I remember all too well), but also allows you to instantly upload that data onto the web. This means that you can get real-time stats and scoring updates, for athletic competition of all levels: from youth sports all the way through college.
Because all of the data is automatically compiled, it allows parents, athletes and coaches to easily keep track of what’s happened over the course of a season, without having to manually tabulate the statistics every day. And since the GameChanger application immediately exports all the collected data to the web, you don’t have to actually be at the game to know what’s happening. For busy parents or fellow students who might not be able to make every single away game, this technology is a handy way to stay abreast of everything that’s happening.
While the application is currently available only for baseball scoring, the team is hard at work implementing software for the full range of amateur sports. GameChanger also has plans to roll out SMS, Twitter and Facebook tracking. To keep up with these and other updates, please visit their blog.
