All you need is love... and maybe a bit of humor. At least according to the folks running the latest United Colors of Bennetton campaign, which has drawn the ire of many around the world.
The new kiss-and-make-up advertising campaign for the clothing manufacturer, dubbed Unhate, which shows digitally altered photos (see below) of world leaders smooching men they'd rather be kicking, went viral this week as soon as special interest groups started protesting.
Ah, just as planned, no doubt.
Although the the campaign was designed with the idea of promoting peace and love, Bennetton's modus operandi suggests they were ready to deliver a little shock and awe to drum up some attention. Mission accomplished!
And what do digitally altered photos of world leaders engaged in a lip lock have to do with selling colorful checkered shirts that retail for $79? Not much, but it does have plenty to do with pushing the Benetton brand.
