Press releases are often very text heavy, especially when it comes to B2B marketing. When reporters are sifting through information, they are looking for content that will be the most engaging to their readers. Just like the goal for creating consumer focused content, an infographic is much easier to digest than reading through an entire study. At the end of the day, reporters are consumers too and are looking for easily readable, engaging content. The quicker a press release grabs their attention the better it is for you and your brand.
Attaching an infographic can help the media connect and gain a better understanding of your press release without having to read through the entire piece. In addition to helping the media understand your press worthy topic, you are handing a reporter a press release with a "prize inside". Your infographic is something that they can instantly attach to their article and has a better chance of catching their readers' attention. The sharability of infographics is a great selling point to reporters because infographics are easy for readers to pass around which will help to grow their audience too.

Recently on one of my projects at BFM, we created an infographic for a B2B client and tested this theory ourselves. The infographic, as pictured below, was about the payment processing trends in 2014:
After posting the infographic to our social media outlets we saw some traffic, but not as much as we would have liked. We chose to call attention to the infographic by attaching it to a press release.
And voilà! We saw a significant increase in traffic to the blog post and had large media outlets like Yahoo! Finance, Reuters and the Digital Journal sharing E-Complish's branded content in less than 24-hours. Overall, attaching the infographic was great exposure for the brand and positioned E-Complish as an expert in the field of payment processing.
Including a little added value to a press release through visual elements like infographics can give your company's newsworthy topics a competitive advantage. While using press release links to try and add value for SEO is frowned upon, the odds of your content being picked up by other high quality outlets and getting powerful links and increased traffic as a result increases exponentially when you give audiences press releases that provide stimulating content.
