Objectives

After over 60 years in business, the Smarties candy brand came to Blue Fountain Media to get an online face-lift. The brand website was lacking excitement and engagement. In response, we created an interactive Flash website that draws users into a magical candy land, targeted to both children and adults.

Methodology

The project was started with an in-depth planning phase, which involved the creation of a sitemap, user flows, and notes about potential ideas to lure visitors further into the website. The outcome of the website planning was a detailed specifications document, which laid out the blue print for the design and development of the entire website.

The Blue Fountain Media design team then conceptualized the design of the website through the use of inspirational imagery such as the ones below.

Inspirational images used in the creation of Smarties.com

The next step was to begin illustrating the scenery that we wished to portray via the Flash website by creating vector images using Adobe Illustrator and applying them to an interface mockup in Photoshop.

The final step involved taking the design mockups and converting them into an interactive Flash interface that had a life of its own. See for yourself!

The news of the Smarties.com re-launch paralleled with a renewed social media presence by parent company, Smarties Candy Company, increased Facebook fans from a mere 900 to over 40,000 within a short period of time. Smarties was featured in SmartBlogs for their social media prowess and new website.
