What is Google AdWords?

AdWords is Google’s advertising tool which allows users to create ads that target potential customers when they search for those products or services on Google. The advertiser can control how much to spend on each click, daily budget, and where ads appear. Charges only apply when the ad is clicked.

Here is an example of an AdWords advertisement when “ecommerce website design” is searched. Everything located within the red boxes are paid search.

Headline: The headline is also a link to the website being advertised. For the first ad, the headline in blue is “E-Commerce Website Design │ BlueFountainMedia.com.”

Lines of text: Ad copy used to promote the product or service being offered. “Our Website Designs Drive Profit Grow Your Business. Request A Quote.”

Display URL: Green line in the ad that shows the URL of the website being promoted. “www.bluefountainmedia.com/E-Commerce”

Destination URL: The landing page is the exact page of the website where users will be sent after clicking on the ad. The destination URL is not visible and should be relevant to the product or service being offered.


Ad Position Rank Factors

Cost-per-click (CPC) is what you pay when your ad is clicked. CPC bid helps determine how often an ad can appear and its ranking on the page.

Quality Score measure the relevancy of an ad. This is used for the ad, keyword, and landing page. The score helps determine an ad’s ranking.
