Happy International Women’s Day! This year, the BFM team took part in #BalanceforBetter , a year-round, global campaign dedicated to creating a better, gender-balanced future.
Members of the BFM team took a trip to Madison Square Park to show our support for #BalanceforBetter and to celebrate this campaign’s great message. We also asked BFMers to dig deep and share a story, quote, or memory about an influential woman (or women) in their lives. Check it out!
“You can waste your lives drawing lines. Or you can live your life crossing them.” - Shonda Rhimes
- Irina Likhashkina, Art Director
“My 3rd-grade teacher, Ms. Schlacks, somehow proved to little kid Steve that writing was cool and that I could be good at it. I don’t remember how she managed to pull that off, but now my whole life revolves around written word and I’m very thankful for that. Melissa, I’m still proving you right.”
- Steve Pirani, Copywriter
“Throughout my professional career, I’ve had the privilege of being mentored and guided by women managers and leadership in every position I’ve held. In my musical career, I’ve always been moved and inspired by the powerful voices and talents of women like Tina Weymouth, Bridget Kearney and Rachel Price, Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot.”
- Thomas Duffy, Talent Recruiter
“My mom is the most influential woman in my life. She is my best friend and biggest cheerleader. One thing my mom taught me that I try to portray every day is to ‘worry less and smile more.’ She says happiness is the best accessory. I truly wouldn’t be the woman I am today without her guidance.”
- Elisa Bellino, Corporate Marketing Coordinator
“The strongest person I ever knew in my life was my mother. She fought through stage 4 pancreatic cancer for 7 and a half years. The odds were HEAVILY stacked against her, but she lived long enough to celebrate as much as she could with her family. She died not two weeks after learning of our impending pregnancy with our son. As he grows up, he tells us all the time how much he loves his mom-mom even though he never met her. Her strength, compassion, artistic living and matriarchal legacy lives through us every day. We draw our strength and love from her immortal, bottomless well even 5 1/2 years after she passed.
- Jared Miller, Account Director
“Well-behaved women seldom make history.” - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich
- Brynn Smith-Raska, Account Director
“Jen Sprance Cusenza showed me that a woman can be a mentor, a boss, a mom, and a human being. You can do your job at 100% without sacrificing empathy and love for those around you. Most importantly, Jen gave me the strength to lift myself out of the worst personal situation I had ever been in – and not by becoming my crutch. She challenged me to be the strong woman she knew I could be and pushed me to rise above abuse and daily toxicity. I truly believe that I am alive and thriving today because of her support.”
- Jenn McCoy, Client Partner
“The most influential woman in my life is, and always will be, Rachel Becker: My Nunnie. She was the first ‘city girl’ I ever knew… as she went to work in a time when most women stayed home to tend house. She did it all to prove that any woman could do it all! (And we can!) While I only had 10 years with her in this life, the impact she has on me will live on forever.”
- Samantha Lambert, Director of Human Resources
“The woman who inspires me the most is my mom. Her dedication to everything - our family, her work, her life - is something I’ve always admired, and I hope to be more like her every day.
- Alexa DeAssis, Sales Development Associate
“The woman who has influenced my life the most is my mom. She has always taught me to be true to myself and that I can achieve anything I set my mind to. I would not be the woman I am today without her.”
- Nicolette Cianciotta, Human Resources Assistant
