What is Font?
A set of characters of a particular typeface design and size. In 1996 Microsoft initiated “Core Fonts for the Web”, a program to create a set of standard internet fonts. This lead to release of many popular fonts, such as Times New Roman, Helvetica, and Arial.
It is important to use commonly used web-safe fonts when creating online content. If a visitor’s browser is unable to display a font, then it will revert to its default font. CSS allows for multiple back-up fonts when if the primary font cannot be displayed by a browser. Read this article by Google on new web safe fonts.
